At the end of last year, a colleague of mine came into work with some balls from Hear Us Raw for the two of us to sample. One of her friends from volleyball had started a local business with a friend specialising in vegan superfood balls. They’re raw, natural, gluten free, refined sugar free and made from organic ingredients. Each ball is roughly 150 calories. I have always had a sweet tooth and was curious about these so called healthy snacks so I was keen to try. I must admit that I had always thought raw balls were quite expensive for what they are – so small, how can someone be satisfied by it and justify paying $4-6 per ball? But I was actually pleasantly surprised at how filling they were! And these bad balls were pretty tasty.
We sampled all 9 flavours that are on offer. I just want to note how adorable and creative each of the names of these amazeballs are (puns intended). Some of them I must admit are quite similar. Others have a really unique flavour to them. Mind you, you probably wouldn’t sit there and eat all 9 balls in one hit like we did. There were three flavours which were clear winners for me: Matcha Macho Man (which had a hint of minty freshness to it), Cupid the cutie (which was fruity and berrylicious) and Mr Peanut Powerball (cause face it, who doesn’t like a chocolate and peanut butter combination). Overall, I thought these superfood balls are a great healthy alternative snack and I’m always up for supporting local small businesses. The balls vary in price depending on how many you buy – the more you buy the cheaper they are. They start off as a box of 4 for $16 ($4 each) and go up to a box of 20 for $60 ($3 each).
